SEnS Capital is, under the name of Tree Power, active as a developer and manager of pyrolysis installations. In these installations, flash pyrolysis technology is used to transform second generation biomass into pyrolysis oil. Pyrolysis oil is therefore a renewable energy-carrier that can be used in various applications, ranging from co-combustion in power plants to upgrading to transport fuel.
Together with BTG-BTL, the developer of the flash pyrolysis technology that Tree Power is using, a first commercial pyrolysis plant is being developed in Hengelo, the Netherlands. This plant is scheduled to become operational in 2011. In Spain and France, local representatives of Tree Power are working on the development of a portfolio of pyrolysis installations.
